In 1997 Lake invented the first true winter specific cycling shoe with the MXZ300.
The Lake winter boots were developed and tested with input from extreme winter endurance cycling legends John Stampstad, Rocky Reifenstuhl and Mike Curiak to name a few. Their input gave shape to the Lake winter boots that we know today.
The unique boot shape allows for us to trap warm air, which is the best insulator for any type of footwear. The MXZ303 continues to be the best of the best as the top fat bike and winter specific cycling shoe of choice. With the use of tried and true technically advanced materials as well as new innovative elements we have created a boot that is 100% pure function. The upper is Water Resistant Pittard’s Full grain leather. There is a reason leather is still used in hardcore arctic footwear and the natural breathable and insulating properties are one of the reasons why the MXZ303 works so well. 100% lined with Outlast temperature regulating fabric, this liner reacts to your body to maintain a comfortable to the touch temperature. In order to keep the warm air in and the cold air from entering the bottom, we use a composite 5 layer footbed that creates a temperature isolating barrier. Keeps the heat in and the cold out.
In conjunction with the BOA® closure system we are able to have a shoe that does not cut off circulation while offering a secure foot and heel hold. This is all built on Lake’s legendary Nylon midsole that is extremely comfortable and stiff. For traction control we use durable and grippy Vibram rubber tread for sure footing and stability.
